Repost of "Your Personal Big Bang"

Originally posted on Feb. 10, 2008

One day, some years ago, your current universe was created when you were born into this world. As you went from the warm, moist, quiet comfort of your mother’s womb to the cold, dry, noisy world, where you were tossed around as they cut your cord, then weighed, measured, foot printed you, and finally layed you, chilled and naked onto a hard table or other surface. I’m sure that seemed like a very “big bang” to you. Within hours your universe started to be built. Your universe may have included two loving parents who held you close and provided you with warmth, security, brightly colored toys, intelligent conversation and so on. Or, you may have been born to a single parent who immediately rejects you and you become a ward of the state. You may have grown up in deplorable circumstances, of little or no food, filthy environment, no play or toys, mental and physical abuse. Either way, your universe is shaped by others for the first few years of your life. At some point, however, you become the architect of your universe. Or, to continue with the metaphor from the previous post, you take over the garden. No matter what your background, the only thing you can do from here is determine where it is you want to go and how you get there from where you are.

Now, to carry this thought one step further, what kind of universe are you creating for your children?
